£32m Teddington School rebuild gets planning go-ahead5.00.00pm GMT Sun 20th Jan 2008
The £32m rebuild of Teddington School was given the go-ahead by Richmond Council's Planning Committee on Thursday, 17th January. Following a three-hour meeting at the school, committee members voted unanimously in favour of the scheme, which promises to deliver one of the most advanced and sustainable schools in the country. Work is set to start this spring with pupils due to move into the new building in January 2010. Cllr Stephen Knight, Deputy Leader of Richmond Council, who has led the project, said: "I am thrilled that after two years of hard work, this hugely important scheme has been approved. "It will deliver a state-of-the-art building providing superb facilities for nearly 1,200 pupils, as well as one of the most sustainable schools anywhere in the country. "The Liberal Democrat Council is committed to driving up standards in our secondary schools and building programmes such as this are absolutely key. We are investing more than £7m of Council money in this scheme, in addition to government funding, to help make the project a reality."
